I was hoping to get some advise on exercise routines. I just started doing pushups and jogging in the early morning. I'm 58 not too bad of shape 6' 190lbs. but want to build up my chest, arms and cut the fat around the middle..I drink alot of beer::) I need something fairly easy so I won't give up in a couple of weeks. I plan on jogging and pushup 4-5 times a week. I have a curling bar which I could use for curls and maybe for squarts, this gives me 4 exercises. I need to buildup my skinny arms and ass. Guys any help in designing a routine would be greatly appreciated..unfortunately the nearest Gym is 30 minutes away.

First, stop drinking beer. That'll be a big step. Let me know if you can do that.

shea, first thing i would do,is delete the word EASY,if it was easy, you wouldnt be on the internet, lookin for help,im not tryin to disappoint you,but the cold hard truth,is all that has ever helped me,im 55,and it does get tougher to build muscle,as we get older, and like another fellow said,if youre not willing to drop the booze, with all those dead calories,i dont see much change, happening,,,ive lost 75 lbs,by changin the way i live,if it aint healthy for me,i dont eat it,every single day,i get my ass out of this recliner, and go joggin, walkin, calisthentics, etc,i also got some weights, put them in my garage, and while im watchin tv,sports, etc,i exercise, its amazing, how exercise can become habit forming,it likd to killed me at first, but now,i look forward to startin my day off, joggin and walkin, and, usually, sometime during most every day,i fool around with the weights,i feel so much better,no way in hell,id ever go back to that sedentary lifestyle,,,get out there, and get on with it,in a few months, youll be a diffeent person.

Would have to agree with TKim, you gotta try to limit your alcohol intake. Alcohol greatly affects your metabolism and greatly hinders your chances of losing weight. If you can't give it up completely try to cut to one day a week or every other week. I think you'll be amazed at how easy the weight will come off if you stop or limit alcohol.

The key to sticking with exercise is that you must have a proper diet set up otherwise there is no doubt you will not survive. With that being said you can still drink beer but as far as your eating goes it is very important to stay away from anything WHITE,

As you get older, the ass sinks into the body and pushes the stomach out. My father and grandfather don't even have an ass anymore.

First off thanks Guy's for the responses! Its been nearly a month and I'm down to the low 180's....I've been jogging in the mornings, about a mile or so and biking in the afternoons..6-10 miles 4-5 days a week. In addition, I been doing pushups nearly everyday..I love this exercise! I've assembled some sort of home gym where I work out 3 times a week for approx. 30 minutes where I've been doing chest (bench presses and barbell pullovers) arms (curls and tricepts where I have dumbell over head and bend..you know the one) and legs (Reverse lunges and Hindue squats). I'm starting to see a difference in my arms and looking to incorporating crunches and butt lifts for my rolly polly gut. I've cut down somewhat on beer, particularly during the week but believe cutting back on hugh dinners has really helped me the most, that and the biking after dinner. I've pretty much eliminated white bread, sugar, potatoes, sweets and soda from my diet. I believe I will be at 175lbs in the next 30 days(i'm 6') but want to start adding muscle to replace the fat I'm taking off. I'm always at a lost as to what to eat a lunch and mid days snacks
my mornings are usually multigrain cheerios with either blueberries or a banana
or a couple hard boil eggs with one slice of whole wheat toast. I would appreciate any suggestions any of you may have regarding anything I've said here and what you guys doing for lunches and mid day snacks.

al,i havent lost one ounce(on the scale)since i started weight trainin, but what a difference,in the way i feel...compared to today,i was weak as hell, and didnt even know it...although ive been stuck on 225 for about 2 months,im slowly gainin muscle,in the right places, and losin fat, where there is fat...everybody who hasnt seen me in a couple months or so,are so full of compliments, that it freaks me out,of course, the 22nd,will be 7 months, that ive been goin at it with the cardio, and about 2 months with the weights.....just be very cautious, about an initial weight loss,it can be tricky...im finding out that cardio one day,and weights the next,is workin very well,it gives the body a chance to recover, and the older you get,the more important recovery time is.......one more thing..if you want this to be permanent, dont focus on short periods of time, set yourself some small, short term goals, and some big(but doable)long term goals.....annnd the rest of your life, will be the best of your life....'keep the continue'

Proper diet is key. I went to workout, jogged a mile, hit the weights and then hit Wendy's afterward. Not the way to go to losing weight.

agreed. cut out as much sugar as possible. eat more protein and fiber. no trans fats (look on the label for Partially Hydrogenated Oils...if it's there, put it back on the shelf). no cokes. no diet cokes. drink lots of water. beer in moderation.

once a week or twice a month...it's OK to splurge on something "bad".

i guess you could do crack once a week,or twice a month, and it would be 'ok'..trouble is,that crap is addictive, the more of hat crap we put in our bodies, the more our bodies crave it..why set off those cravings..'keep the cntinue'

Gentlemen...thanks for all the insight...I agree a healthy diet goes hand in hand with a healthy body. I'm at 182 lbs down from 195 a mere two months ago because I decided that I wanted to lose some of my body fat. I guess Mr
Hognuts2 is probably right on when he says forget about the weight and work on converting the fat to muscle so 180lbs is probably a good weight for me providing it is a healthy weight. My biggest problem area at this point has to be around my midsection which I hope to correct by doing what I've been doing these past couple of months. Anybody watch Tiger Wood this past weekend??.....talk about a physical speciman..I'd love to know his exercise routine..I've had to cut back on my jogging, my right knee has been soar lately..probably from doing a mile plus on concrete..so I'll wait a week and find another area to do my running. I'm hoping the running and biking will slim down my middle as I hate doing crunches. I've really started enjoying jogging to the point I can't stand walking. Whats really neat is that I am starting to see a difference from where I was a couple months ago and my sister-in-law commented a couple nights ago that she noticed a difference and thought I looked good. Maybe there is something to the phrase to "no pain no gain".
Still looking for the easy way to a six pack middle..:)

Well done Shea. Your progress is inspirational (for lack of a less-gay term).
